The Arun Deb Promise of Excellence in W.A.S.H. Award
Attn: Faculty, administrators, students at Universities in the Greater Philadelphia region.
Supervisors, Mentors, Trainers, Colleagues at Companies, NGOs, and Agencies in the region.
In 2018 the Global Water Alliance established the “Arun Deb Promise of Excellence in WaSH Award” (Water, Sanitation, Hygiene) in honor of its founding board member, Dr. Arun Deb.
Advanced undergrad and graduate students at accredited universities and young professionals at work in companies, government agencies or NGOs can be nominated for the award. The nomination should be based on work undertaken by the student or professional in the form of a research project, senior thesis, a capstone experience, an analytical paper, report-from-the-field, a commentary or blog, webinar or podcast or excellent reports of (volunteer) field work, as the saying goes: “beyond the call of duty.” Nominations can be made by faculty members, supervisors, internship mentors, executives of NGOs, and community partners. Self-nominations are not accepted.
The award committee will evaluate the nominations against several criteria:
- the objectives of the work should fit within the broad policy domains of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal # 6: Clean Water and Sanitation
- the overall quality of the material written or produced, e.g. protocol of research, presentation of findings, clarity of language, use of media, and thoroughness of the research and/or theses.
- contribution to innovations, critical debates, and overall understanding of a theme within WASH.
- the award committee will pay extra attention to the way inequity and multi-disciplinarity are addressed, as formulated in the Sustainable Development Goal # 6.
The nominations can be for one student/professional or one small team (n=3).
Award level: First Prize $1500.00. Runner-Up: $500.00.
Nominations for 2023 can be emailed to info@globalwateralliance.net before September 1, 2023. For inquiries contact cbmorssink@globalwateralliance.net.
