Water Online recently published a news story by Peter Chawaga on Colorado City adopting Direct Potable Reuse (DPR) treatment systems. Christiaan Morssink (GWA President) provided his insight on DPRs.

Of course they can do it safely; think space-stations and submarines; highly trained, super high tech; on a public scale  that should also be doable, requiring major uptick in current knowledge, management and control systems; something that many US municipalities are simply not equipped to handle, and companies cannot guarantee without disregarding their primary bottom line. Also, what would the insurance industry say about DPR becoming a large scale practice? Can DPR be considered in poverty markets, like in the Sahel? Just questions for now, but intriguing ones for faculty and students throughout academia and the governmental sectors.
